Retirement living is a great way to empower seniors to remain living independantly when they need a little more support than family can provide at home.  All while being independent, seniors can enjoy social interactions, security, proper nutrition, and a great quality of life in retirement living.

Here are eight reasons to think about when considering why retirement living may be a great fit for a senior in your life.

1. Safe Environment

A secured building with 24-hour on-site staff offers peace of mind to residents.  Residents can also be comforted with knowing that each room in their suite and common areas throughout the building are equipped with emergency response systems such as pull cords.  At Rotary Villas, in addition to the pull cords, a mobile medical alert pendant is also offered to residents for an additional monthly cost.

Building features of Rotary Villas include handrails throughout all hallways, non-slip flooring, and state of the art fire detection and suppression systems throughout all suites and common areas.

2. Social Activities

Seniors may become isolated living at home, particularly if they live alone.  Retirement living facilities make it easy to stay social, active, and engaged.  Whether it be having coffee with peers in the common areas or participating in a structured activity such as an outing, card games, book club, or listening to entertainment, assisted living offers a variety of activities.

Rotary Villas has a two Recreation and Wellness Coordinators that create a full monthly calendar of activities and outings.  This includes monthly trips to the casino, entertainment, whist, floor curling, book club, gardening club, monthly birthday celebrations, crafts and art classes, workshop projects, and more!

3. Physical Activity and Fitness

As we age, it is important to keep active and moving!  Many retirement living facilities offer opportunities for physical fitness beyond what seniors are provided with at home.

Rotary Villas has a Fitness Centre which includes treadmills, an elliptical, and stationary bicycles for residents to use at their leisure.   Also, stretching and exercise classes are offered for all residents every morning Monday thru Friday in one of our common rooms.

4. New Friends

Socialization is important for people of all ages.  Assisted living allows seniors to mingle and make friends and enjoy a coffee, meal, or activity together.  On the other hand, residents can enjoy the privacy of their own suite.

5. Transportation

Driving abilities may decrease as one ages and driving may become more stressful.  While parking spots are available for those that wish to still drive, residents can rely on shuttle transportation to get them to and from appointments, errands, church, social gatherings, etc.

Rotary Villas’ shuttle operates Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (excluding 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.), as well as Sunday church run from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

6. Nutritious Meals

Many seniors living alone do not eat properly.  Grocery shopping or meal preparation may be unappealing.  At retirement living facilities, residents don’t need to worry about what their next meal is or how much food is left in the fridge.  Residents are served three nutritionally balanced, chef-prepared meals each day.  Special diet needs can also be accommodated for.

Residents at Rotary Villas are offered two food choices every meal.  Menu selections are on a 21 day cycle.

7. Housekeeping

Keeping the house clean may become more difficult as we age and these day-to-day responsibilities are often shifted to a caregiver or neglected.  Housekeeping becomes a thing of the past, as most retirement living complexes offer housekeeping services as part of the monthly rent cost.

Rotary Villas provides weekly light housekeeping and linen and towel services to residents.  Additional housekeeping and personal laundry services can also be arranged for a fee.

8. No Home Maintenance or Yardwork

Home repairs, mowing the lawn, shoveling the driveway, and maintaining the garden become difficult as physical ailments are developed with age.  Residents of retirement living don’t have to worry about any of this as it is all taken care of.  Many facilities also offer a community garden or flower bed for green thumbs to enjoy and help care for if desired.

A few raised garden boxes are available for Rotary Villas’ residents to plant flowers and/or vegetables if they wish to do so.  A gardening group is also formed each spring to plan and care for these boxes throughout the summer season.

Retirement living helps seniors live independently with easy access to an active, social, and healthy lifestyle.
