Job Title: Dining Room Server (Part Time)
Hours: Approximately 6 AM – 9 PM
Reports To: Head Chef/Director of Culinary Services

The Dining Room Servers will work with the kitchen staff to provide a culinary experience to all residents and guests at each meal, ensuring the principles of fine dining service excellence are met. They will work within the food services team to deliver dining services that comply organizational service standards and budgetary guidelines. The dining room server is expected to be mindful of the aging processes on the dining experience and make the appropriate accommodations to ensure dining is a safe and pleasant experience for all residents, guests and staff. The head server will also assist the chef in ordering of stock.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Ensure appropriate organizational policies, procedures, processes and systems are in place and being monitored
  • Monitor supply and maintenance of all dining room equipment and supplies in compliance with the organizations safety and service standards, report all deficiencies to the Chef
  • Assist the Chef in ordering of food and equipment related to serving
  • Prepare dining area for guests including setting proper tableware up as directed in organizational service standards manual
  • Create a comfortable diningenvironment for residents and guests by way of friendly and professional interactions
  • Take meal and beverage orders and serve items according to established guidelines
  • Ensure meal services commence and are completed at the scheduled times
  • Bus tables following service and coordinate with kitchen staff to complete dishwashing process
  • Ensure dining areas are clean at all times
  • Handle foods in accordance with sanitary procedures and organizational standards
  • Serve alcoholic beverages to residents and guests in complete compliance with provincial licensing regulations and organizational standards and policies
  • Stock, maintain and clean designated food and beverage stations
  • Assist recreation department in promoting recreation opportunities available to residents and encourage participation
  • To escalate resident or family complaints to the Chef if beyond the scope of the server
  • Promote Resident autonomy, independence and advocacy, including Residents’ rights and a culture of dignity and non-abuse
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Competencies & Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification required, or must be willing to obtain upon hire
  • Valid Serving it Safe Certificate required, or must be willing to obtain upon hire
  • Previous knowledge of WHMIS program or AED training an asset
  • Previous experience in restaurant or banquet settings or senior care is considered an asset

  • Must have a high degree of interpersonal skills which would enable the incumbent to deal successfully with emergency situations

Other Expectations

  • A current and clear Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
